ELLEN VIOLETTE BIO
Long Version:
Ellen Violette started writing her first journal in junior high school and poetry in high school, where she realized she was hooked on writing. She went on to major in Sociology and minor in English at The University of California at Berkeley, where she wrote for the local environmental center and did advocacy on behalf of rape victims. Writing was just what she did and she always knew that someday she would write books!
But Ellen got sidetracked and went to graduate school at The University of California at Los Angeles in Architecture in l975. Architecture Schools were actively recruiting people in the social sciences and it seemed interesting at the time. She left after two years because it wasn’t the right medium for her and started pursuing songwriting, which grew out of her poetry writing. She received a Grammy nomination for “Pure Schuur” by two-time Grammy-award winning artist, Diane Schuur (I Could Get Used To This), has had songs recorded by several artists, as well as in film and television, and ran her own recording studio, Oak Road Recording with her husband, Christen Violette.
Ellen also worked as a publicist for the Ice House in Pasadena, California, a famous comedy club, and as a copyeditor and layout person for Miramar Publishing. She also wrote for The National Academy of Songwriters, Songwriter Weekly, The San Diego Songwriter’s Guild, as well for The Del Mar Times. She started her own writing company in l997 called Pen and Punctuation, writing marketing materials mainly for high tech companies, but she did not find it inspiring. She also taught songwriting workshops in North County. However, she and her husband started making very good money in real estate after Ellen inherited the house she grew up in the Beverlywood area of Los Angeles. They bought property in North County San Diego and started buying, fixing, and selling houses. When the market got too hot they took a property management job back in Los Angeles.
Today, Ellen spends most of her time writing her own ebooks, teaching her ebook writing and marketing workshops to authors, coaches, entrepreneurs, and speakers, creating digital products and running her eBook Writer’s Club.
Ellen also publishes the popular electronic newsletter “The eBook Profit Secrets Newsletter” to more than 8,000 subscribers world-wide, where she helps people stay on top of the world of ebook writing and marketing with articles, tech tips, and Q&A’s.
She loves songwriting, dancing, music, movies, pop culture, politics, and intelligent conversation, and loves to hang out with her teenage niece and nephews.
Her one goal in life: to do what she loves, make a great living doing it, and help others do the same!
She lives in Woodland Hills, California with her husband, Christen Violette, a clinical hypnotherapist, business partner, and sometime collaborator.
