Tech Tip

If you need a piece of software go to www.downloads.com
and see if you can find what you are looking for for free
before you pay for software. But make sure to research it and make sure it's a good program. It won't do you any good if it doesn't get the job done as easily as possible!

"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new."

Albert Einstein

The holiday season is upon us and as the year winds down I like to look at what I had planned to accomplish, what actually got accomplished and if something didn't get accomplished why it didn't get accomplished, and what I can do better next year.

It's also a time where I reevaluate what I'm doing and what direction I want to go in in the coming year.
And then the next step is to figure out what my goals are for the coming year and how I can best accomplish them.

One of the problems is we get caught up in the day to day
stuff and you sometimes don't really realize how far you've come.  This year, I've made 33% more than I made last year and I'm not done yet!

I also created my new website which is getting rave reviews (www.theebookcoach.com)! And, I created a membership club and then merged with Jeff Herring to create the Articles to eBooks Membership (www.articlestoebooks.com) which is bigger, better and more powerful than ever!

I also worked on two BIG projects, my eBook Profit Marketing Secrets Home-Study Course which you'll be
hearing more about very soon. And I wrote the ebook, Sell More eBooks, Low & No-Cost Tactics To Explode Your eBook Sales And Downloads with Jim Edwards, and  there were a lot of lessons there (the most important one being patience!)

I also realized that being dependent on vendors all the time for my web pages, audios and newsletters wasn't working for me. I wanted to be able to put up a page if it was the weekend and nobody was around to help me or at the last second when they couldn't fit me in. So I've been working on that.

And I'm not going to lie. In the beginning I was practically in tears! But then one of my vendors told me that his wife was also in tears when she started and now she's
a web designer! That made me feel a lot better about it. Plus he didn't judge me! That's very important

So, when you are ready, I highly suggest learning this stuff-a little at a time-because it WILL give you more control. (If you'd like to check out a low-cost solution to get you started you can go to http://snipurl.com/webdesigntools

I also learned a lot about how NOT to create a big home-study course! Some of my best products and innovations come from what didn't work so well! So I created a new process that cuts the cost and increases your control over the audio-editing process and you can learn more about that at: www.theebookcoach.com/recordingservices.html

I also learned a lot about communication and about myself
and hiring and firing! And believe me these are just as important as what you are selling!

I learned that if someone isn't coming through who works with me, I'm still the one who is responsible and it's up to me to fire that person and move on. That's been a hard one for me.  I tend to be very loyal! But I see it isn't always best for my business to try and hang in there.  And it's slowed down product production at times.  So I see I have some work to do in that department.

But I'm very excited about continuing to create solutions that work and make your life easier when it comes to creating and marketing ebooks and information products
and continuing to grow my business in new and exciting ways.

And the Internet is changing all the time-video is going to be huge this year. There's also social networks, pod casting and who knows what's next. But that's what I love about it- new challenges and new mountains to climb all the time!

So I hope you'll take a little time this busy season to do the same.  Don't judge yourself, just observe what you did, what you want to do and what you can do better and then make a plan. And if you aren't where you want to be, ask yourself, what would you need to do to get where you want to be at the end of 2007 and TAKE ACTION!

And definitely take some time to enjoy the holiday season!

Happy Holidays and Peace On Earth!

eBook Marketing: 5 Mistakes You Don’t Want To Make!

1.   Thinking you are going to get rich overnight.  When you hit an emotional chord with people they will buy from you. And anyone who understands Internet marketing knows that making money without having to work hard for it is very appealing to people. So too many marketers try to appeal to that aspect of human behavior.  And they get away with it because there are people who have made over a million dollars with a single product release and that captures the imagination.  And it does show that anything is possible, however, these cases are rare and involve months of planning and that is what people don’t realize.

2.   Creating more and more products without marketing the products you already have.  If you are passionate about your subject and most of us are, it’s easy to get caught up in creating new products without taking full advantage of the products you already have.  The problem is that it costs money to create new products.  So focus on maximizing the profit on each ebook or product before creating a new one.  (If you need an up sell, find an affiliate product, or create something quickly like an audio version of an already existing ebooks for example.)

Q & A

Q: What auto responder do you use?

A: I use 1 Shopping Cart because they have great
FREE support, it's easy to use and it's all inclusive. It has an affiliate program, auto responders, and templates you can use on your webpages.  My link-if you'd like me to get paid is http://snipurl.com/splashmarketing

Q: I want to create an ebook, how do I get started?

A:  There are many ways to create an ebook. First, you have to decide what the purpose of this ebook is going to be. If you want to create an ebook that is going to be your "brochure" that will explain who you are and what you do and why people should work with you,
then the easiest way to create your ebook is to take my
Quick-Start 3-Day eBook Authoring Workshop.

If you are self-motivated you can go to www.quickstartebooks.com and purchase the home-study course.  If you need accountability and want to do the workshop live, stay tuned. I'll be announcing the next one in January.

Q: If people think my ebook is unprintable because of it's size, do you think I would be better off  including an audio CD with every purchase?

A: If your ebook is large you have a couple of options.
See if you can split it into two or three ebooks of between 80-120 pages which is optimal and the best option.

And regardless of how big your ebooks is it's always a good thing to have an audio up sell with it. Once you create the audio you can sell it over and over and increase your bottom line for very little work!

If it doesn't make sense to split one ebook into two or more ebooks a good way to go would be to create pod casts that you can do in segments. It makes it much easier to consume. If you make an audio, it's still going to be long and hard to consume.
