“36 Laws To Ignite Your Inner
Power and Realize Your Dreams Now!”
By John Watson
A great title is essential to making a profit with any
eBook and
I think this one could generate more sales with a stronger
title. “36 Laws To Ignite Your Inner Power and Realize Your
Dreams Now!” could use some pizzazz. For instance instead of
calling it “36 Laws” it could be called “36 Life-Affirming
Laws”, or “36 Universal Laws”. Also, instead of “Realize Your
Dreams Now!” it could say something like “Realize Your Deepest
Dreams Now!” I don’t want to put words in author John Watson’s
mouth, but I just want to suggest some other possibilities.
Enough said.
I found that the author was consistent: the tone
of the cover matched the title; it was plain as well. I think the
fonts could be more interesting and more thought could be given to
the cover. It just didn’t excite me and make me want to read this
eBook.
Also, once I opened the eBook, I felt like I was
reading a sales page on the Internet and not an eBook. I would skip
the hype and get right to the laws. It’s clear that the author is on
a mission and really believes that this eBook will help people and
he did have good solid information to share with his audience. But,
you don’t need to “sell” your readers once they’ve bought the eBook!
While, the information was solid and worth
knowing, it’s a lot to ask people to take in all at once! I’d like
to see it broken down so the information is easier to digest. One
way to do this might be to give the Five Action Steps To Achieve
Your Goals Now! At the beginning instead of at the end and show
people how to take baby steps with the information.
What I did like was that the author gave each law
in easy-to-follow language at the bottom of each chapter. It was
easy to find and provided a quick summary. He also listed the laws
at the back of the eBook. Again for simplicity and ease of use, I
might be inclined to put each law in the table of contents. That
would make it a lot easier for people to get the information
quickly. (When people read eBooks that is what they are looking
for.)
I also really liked the little graphics that John
used throughout the text. Some were better than others so I would
try and stick to the really expressive ones and leave out some of
the others but they were fun and helped the author make his points.
One great strategy for selling more eBooks is to
offer a few free chapters (you can do this by using an eBook theft
protection program (You can claim the one I’m going to be using at:
www.theeBookcoach.com/eBookgenerator) so reader’s can decide if
they want the eBook while protecting yourself at the same time).
When you do this it allows potential buyers to find out what’s in
the eBook. But, they don’t want to be sold to at this point (as I
said earlier). I felt like the author was still trying to sell me
for the first 17 pages! So I’d get rid of that section and start
with the table of contents. Then he could include the “Dear Amazing
Soul” letter and the introduction and then if the author wanted to,
he could include the three steps to achieving goals.
It would also help to number the pages. When you
print out 139 pages, it easy for the pages to get out of order which
can create a big mess. So, make it easy for the reader.
The irony with this eBook is that the eBook cover
led me to believe that it was going to be a simple eBook with 36
straightforward laws that would be easy to follow.
Instead it’s very dense with too many quotes and
stories to make each point.
It would be a lot better if it were pared down
and the author got to each point a lot quicker. Also he repeated the
same quote twice on at least one page which I found a bit insulting
as the reader.
I am also concerned that the author admits to
using quotes without permission. Telling those he has quoted that he
will delete their contributions if they don’t wish to be included
and giving his email is not the best course of action to take here.
I would definitely consult a lawyer and find out what the legal
obligations of the author are upfront. It can stop a lot of
headaches later on.
I think the idea of giving people ways to
remember great information and putting it into a coherent whole is a
great idea. I would encourage the author to refine the look and feel
of the eBook as well as simplifying it for easy consumption. I give
this eBook 3 stars.

I realize that there is a lot of demand for my reader's attention and I am sensitive to this so e-book reviews must be kept to a reasonable length in the newsletter as well.
Therefore I am accepting e-books for full-critiques.
